    Yes, Fraxinus. Not sure which species, though.

    One to keep, I guess, given the Endangered listing for most species in the genus now. But I don't suppose it'll live for long, just until it is big enough to attract those beetles...

    Hmm. Dilemma. On one hand, it is now rare.
    On the other, yeah...I thought about What else would the inevitable ash borers find tasty in my yard?
    Also on the other, it is growing at the base of a large silver maple.
    If I had but world enough and time---and money to hire an arborist---I might consider felling the maple (branch-dropper) and allowing the ash free rein!

    So...do what I have done the past few springs---cut it back? Or try to dig it up?

    Possibly a backyard bonsai.
