From a relative's house/garden- Looks like a peony or something but I'm not entirely sure. These grow from bulbs. Something along the lines of "hun-choy" or something, but is there a more common name? Shown is the flower. Chinese purple striped beans - is the some variety including the word "dragon" (forgot the other half of the word!) Houseplant with broad green leaves and this kind of flower. Any help with these would be appreciated! These images are uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and I'd like to rename them and insert them in to their respective Wiki articles if they exist for each plant. Thanks!
1. Dahlia. They grow from tubers rather than from bulbs.See 2nd link. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...urce=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=xuwxUJjAG4fD0QW8w4DwDA http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=da...g&biw=1536&bih=776&sei=dO4xUOLXEcLb0QWusYDoDA 2. Looks like Amaranthus. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Am...A&biw=1536&bih=776&sei=Oe0xUNSUOJCY1AXOyIDgAw
Thanks so much! Not sure that the second one is Amaranthus though, these flowers grow upwards instead of downwards and the leaves are usually more purple in color. Apparently you can boil them for soup or something.
More research on #2 may be warranted. It might be Amaranthus tricolor, also known as Chinese Spinach or Hinn Choy. Amaranthus tricolor Glossary of Asian Vegetables
