Can someone please tell me the difference? I have seeds of presumably C. siliquastrum - any ecological reason why I shouldn't get them to germinate and plant them in Canada? Will they grow as well here as C. canadensis? Any tips on getting them to germinate would be most welcome.
Hi Iconey, Cercis siliquastrum - Mediterranean redbud is native to the Mediterranean and is hardy to zone 6. http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/factsheets/trees-new/cercis_silicuastrum.html Cercis canadensis - Eastern redbud is native to the Americas and is hardy to zone 4. http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/factsheets/trees-new/cercis_canadensis.html You can search for more info at www.google.com and use the botanical names to get more info.
