Hi there. I recently moved into a new house and am trying to fix the yard up. I want to get rid of this giant out of control weed-like plant that the neighbors call eggaplancha? egeplansha? The roots on it are like bulbs and completely cover the ground all around the bush. I've been searching and searching for information online about it, but because I don't know the spelling I can't find anything. I haven't found anything while flipping through databases either. If someone could identify this plant I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much in advance. Paul
Welcome to UBC forums! I think the name you are searching for is Agapanthus. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=a...JomgPZHageAF&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1536&bih=726
Silver Surfer! Thank you so much! Now to figure out how to keep it from coming back after I dig it out. The roots are insane!!
Oh no... This sucker is spread from corner to corner of the house I moved into. This picture doesn't show how this plant is totally taking over; the ground all around the plant is also starting to sprout with it. This picture also only shows one of them. There are a bunch more that are even bigger, and their roots are all connected. It's even sprouting up in the yard, but I have dogs and a 20 month old son that play in the yard so pesticides aren't an option.
I understand your concerns. On the other hand, it must look great when all those plants are in bloom! What a pity you have to remove them!
