    Hi
Can someone identify this tree. It is about 20 feet tall now, quick grower and has a green ?? fruit (picture 005) which dries up and looks like ???a walnut. Is it edible? The mother tree's leaves were very large---possible about 10-12", and the higher the branch, the bigger the leaves. Thanks

You are correct, it is Juglans regia.

Looks like Spondias pinnata, Hog plum, a tropical tree, but I am not sure. The fruits normally come in bunches on Spondias pinnata. Here in India we use the raw fruits to make pickles. See the attached photo.

Definitely Walnut Juglans regia. Note also, Spondias isn't hardy in Vancouver.

Yes, but the ones dropping now are duds, nowhere near ripe yet. Clear them away and dispose of them, as they might be insect-infested. The good ones will be ripe in mid to late September; after harvesting, break the green outer husk off, and then dry the nuts.

Yes. Other species are grown and used, but this is the predominant one in commerce.
