My mother received this plant (as a seedling), as part of a freebie with her bedding plants. We have tried to identify via various reference books, but failed. We would appreciate a help anyone can give. Thanks in advance

  2. Have you tried matching it against Echiums? There are many different species but there are some that look a lot like your Mothers plant.

    semi positive ID

Thanks again for the lead, I'm fairly positive what we have is a Echium candicans (Pride of Madera), although I'm still looking for photographic confirmation, all the photo's I can find either are to far off, or just the flower.

All the descriptions I have read so far, do seem to confirm it is a Echium candicans, perhaps my sister will confirm, when she comes over from the Canary Islands, it's native land.
