I've seen this blue-purple berry bearing bush a couple of times in the Victoria area (zone 8), but I can never find a tag anywhere near it. So I recognize it but can't name it. Someone must know what it is!

Callicarpa, or Beautyberry. The most common one planted is Callicarpa bodneri 'Profusion'. Even more striking when the foliage turns bright yellow, contrasting with those purple berries.

Looks like Callicarpa americana, but I don't know if it would be in your area.

Found it. I believe the one planted here is usually Callicarpa bodinieri. Thanks - once I had the genus, I could find the most likely species, and the local newspaper had an article on it a year ago.
