Can someone ID the attached (photo) tree?
It is in Austria at the Mirabell Palace and Gardens.
    Thanks

Michael, could you please be more specific? What I read about "Catalpa" is that is a tree from United States, and the tree I am trying to ID, is in Salzburg Austria and it is an ancient tree
    Thank you

Catalpa bignonioides was introduced to Europe in 1726 and is popular in parks and large gardens. I'd doubt your tree is more than 100-150 years old at most, well within the time this species has been grown in Europe.

I was wondering that too (which is why I only put Catalpa sp. in my first reply), but that was only introduced to Europe in 1880. So if it is that, it would have to be one of the very earliest plantings of it, likely before it became readily available.

Are there garden records showing when specimen asked about is supposed to have been planted?

I saw the tree in Salzburg Austria in the "Mirabell Palace and Gardens", I asked a few of the gardeners and they did not even knew the name of the tree, and there were no other people I could ask.
