Hi, Can anyone identify these plants with small fruits at the end of stems? Picture 1: Am I correct that this is maianthemum racemosum? Picture 2: Shows a plant that looks similar to the previous on. But unlike maianthemum racemosum, which as a cluster of fruits, this one has only 1, at most 2 fruits at the end of the stem. Picture 3: Also has a cluster of fruits at the end of the stem, but this one has serrated leaves. Please see Picture 4 for detail. Picture 5: is this a different species? or the same species as one of the above plants? It has serrated leaves, but only a few fruits instead of a cluster. Thank you! Jason
I would say the last three pictures show some Sorbus species, possibly S. aucuparia. Maianthemum racemosum looks right to me.
A weed in this region, confused with native Sorbus species because it comes up on its own. Yet the native species branch from the base and grow in the mountains.
So i am reading that the sorbus aucuparia is native to Europe and parts of Asia and Africa, and was introduced and naturalized in North America. Would the sorbus scopulina and sorbus sitchensis be native to the West Coast / Pacific Nortwest, west of the rocky mountains (Burnaby mountain) where I took the photos? And I have a question, if I may: what makes a plant grow in the mountains and not elsewhere?
