Hey , have 3 plants in the front yard I would like to find out the names for if anyone knows. All were planted by someone so should be fairly common but I couldn't figure them out by searching. First one is a shrub about 6ft tall and has large thorns on the branches. It gets a yellow/gold berry shortly (early summer?) Second one is a lower lying plant about 1ft tall. Ignore the purple flowers as they are just a groundcover below it. Third one has long wispy like branches and fairly big leaves. Stretched out it would probably be 2ft tall but the branches hanging over it stands about 1ft + a bit Thanks for any help!
The first is a Daphne, 2nd a Pieris (native to North West America), and 3rd a Sarcoccoca (native to China/Himalayas)...beautiful evergreen shrubs.... I must be blind, as I do not see thorns on the first photo. My trusted sources tell me that Sarococca is SE Asia?
K Baron -- the ID on the second photo is correct, but not the native distribution: native to mountain regions of eastern and southern Asia, eastern North America and Cuba. This looks like one of the Asian species (or cultivars of such) to me.
1. Sorry, not a Daphne. Daphne do not have thorns. It may be a Pyracantha. http://images.google.com/images?q=p...1I7SUNA_en-GB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi 2. Pieris. 3. I believe it may be something in Ericaceae. Possibly Gaultheria sp.
