We moved in last year and were lucky enough to have these 2 mature shrubs. I think the first one may be a weigela but I didn't now they could get that big (must be 10ft). The second one I have no idea but it does get red berries and I can't remember if it flowers or not. Also, should I be worried about the spotting on the leaves? To clairfy the pictures: #1 and 2 are the same plant. #3 and 4 are the same plant.
1. and 2. Looks like Kolkwitzia amabilis, or cultivar. Common name Beauty bush. http://images.google.com/images?q=K...1I7SUNA_en-GB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi
3. and 4. Aronia possibly? Common name Chokeberry. http://images.google.com/images?q=a...1I7SUNA_en-GB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi
Thank you for your responses. Does anyone have an opinion about the spotting on the leaves?? They are widespread over the whole bush and I want to know if there's anything I can do about it.
The spots were probably due to the right temps with the right moisture for a day or two, which some bacteria or fungus liked. Sort of like having a pimple on our face - then it's gone, but leaves a mark. At least the plants have new leaves later on. No big deal, I just ignore it. Could your second photo be Weigela ??
I agree that #2 is a Weigela, and a very nice one at that. I can't judge #1 or #3 since I don't have a close enough look at the leaves. Are #1 and #2 the same plant?
There are two shrubs represented by four pictures. >We moved in last year and were lucky enough to have these 2 mature shrubs< The second picture is the close-up view of the beauty bush in the first shot. The holly is also depicted first by a habit shot and then a close-up.
1. and 2. By zooming in, the tiny hairs on the flower stalks that id Kolkwitzia amabilis can clearly be seen. http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?i...zia+amabilis&ndsp=18&hl=en&sa=N&start=90&um=1
