I recently moved to the San Francisco area and I am trying to identify the plants in my new backyard. One plant has clusters of pink flowers that appear to be on long vine type shoots all along the ground. The second plant has smooth waxy leaves and is growing beneath a tree in the yard. The tree has small leaves and appears to have been dormant over the dry spring/summer. It has recently sprouted some new growth and a couple of light pink flowers. Any help is greatly appreciated!
The shorter plant with the pink flowers is a Pelargonium of some description; they're commonly called Geraniums. Rub a leaf - you might have one of the scented ones.
Thanks everyone! I am from Florida and we definitely didn't have any of these plants growing in our yard. It is fun to learn about all the new things I can grow out here.
Nearby labeled collections are present in the San Francisco Botanic Garden (in Golden Gate Park) and the University of California Botanical Garden, Berkeley.
