Hi Everyone I was hoping for some help in identifying a couple of daisy-like flowers taken recently (May 2008) in Regent's Park, London. The first pink one was part of a very large display including lots of tulips and was similiar in size to a typical garden daisy, whereas the second looks much more in colour like a garden daisy but was perhaps twice as big, though the petals appear much shorter and fatter. Sorry for the layman's attempt at describing them! Any advice on what they might be would be greatly appreciated as always. Many thanks Clarke ~~~~~ www.4eyesphoto.co.uk
Garden form of Bellis perennis. Need to see the whole plant, unless somebody else thinks they can tell just from this picture.
Second is probably Leucanthemum vulgare, but could be some other species of Leucanthemum, such as Leucanthemum maximum.
My thought as well, I suppose a Shasta daisy might have been used in that setting. But the flowers shown don't look so built up. Maybe the one shown isn't actually part of a bedding display. Other kinds of white daisies are used too.
Hi Again Many thanks for all the very helpful replies so far. I made a slight mistake with my original posting, as the 2nd of the pictures wasn't actually taken in Regent's Park, but in Kensington Gardens, and was not part of a display of any kind, but rather growing wild beside the banks of a large pond, in a very wild area, along with lots of buttercups and nettles. My apologies for not making this clear in the original post. Hope this extra information helps. Here is another picture of flower 2 if that helps. Many thanks. Clarke
I agree with Ron on the first photo to be English Daisy/Bellis perennis. I have the same one in my garden. It self-seeds and grows in my neighbors grass.
