Hello everyone, I found this fruit in the old garden and it is sad that the fruit is beneficial. Do you know what is the name of this fruit ? Thanks
It's Maclura pomifera, Osage orange. Not sure how "beneficial" the fruit is, but there have been many uses for the plant. http://plants.usda.gov/factsheet/pdf/fs_mapo.pdf Maclura pomifera Osage Orange, Bois D'Arc PFAF Plant Database Osage Orange
I did some reading about osage orange last year (or whenever) after someone mentioned the mamoths... The Trees That Miss The Mammoths - American Forests http://www.thegreatstory.org/anachronistic_fruits/anachronistic_fruits_for_printing.pdf And if you enjoyed these articles as much as I did... You might want to download 'the ghosts of evolution' pdf.... or read the book... the pdf was a very long read....
