In The Garden: volunteer bush or tree in my Seattle garden

    Leaves are alternate with dark purplish mottling and the undersides are slightly hairy (I had to look very closely and feel to notice the hairs.) . The leafy part of the stems are smooth, shiny and reddish. Older parts look woodier, with a sort of snakeskin pattern. No flowers, but this is just its first season.

    Looks like a crabapple to me.
