i have prooned said tree, to give it some balance as it was de-capitated some yrs ago and now has 3 main leaders about 5ft tall. the branches i prooned were about 3ft long, i cut them back to about 1ft,
someone has told me "it will not rejuvinate". have i done wrong to try and give it a better shape? will it not sprout more branches from the cut ends?

You want to prune out two of the leaders so it has just one. Select the straightest one to keep, cut the other two off. A photo would help with suggestions on where best to cut.

No need to cut any of the side branches.

Monkey-puzzle is one of very few conifers that will sprout after pruning, but the shape is never as good afterwards as it was originally. The person who decapitated it should be shot ;-)

thanks for your speedy resplonse. the decapitation was an accident i beleav; it was a young plant and the growth that emerged is at ground level.if i cut 2 of the leaders out ,will it not sprout even more and become a bush?

Can you get a photo? That would help.

Unlikely to turn into a bush, that's not how Monkey-puzzles grow.
