A medium tree that has on it alternate , simple , entrie leaves. The tree was covered with flowers which smells putrid. It was covered with flies not hoverflies but the yucky maggot house flies. Good way to ensure pollination. Any ideas?

I guess it might be Prunus lusitanica (syn. Cerasus lusitanica).
