Hi, does anyone know what flower this is? I'm pretty sure its family asteraceae, and leaves are alternate.

Very attractive in fall, when other flowers are gone. The bees love it. It spread all over my backyard and even populated several flower pots.

I have very similar plants as well. It seems common around the lower mainland. I would guess they are either Symphyotrichum (previously Aster) or Aster in the current sense. I think this would be a difficult ID. I just call these asters with a small "a".

Take samples to local outlets to see if they have the same one on display at this time, with a name.

It is called Wood's Aster, which has many varieties. Which exactly, difficult to say. Our seller provides them under several ambiguous names.
All varieties look good, although this, dark purple one, is the most viable.
