    Hi
I have been asking what this is on my facebook page and it has been suggested that it may be a type of gladiola. The plant "stem" certainly looks similar but these flowers?

    Any help appreciated. Thanks Stew

Thanks for this. I did a search on Freesia and it didn't look quite right but it ended up by helping me find a website that suggested Crocosmia 'Lucifer' which is a perfect fit! Thanks for your help!

Yep, after I posted I had doubts...shoulda gotten a clue from the color, if nothing else.
The flowers in pairs like that are non-freesia-ish.

The common one with this appearance is 'Lucifer'.

Crocosmia 'Lucifer' has striking red flowers. The other crocosmia and nice too.

Orangish seedlings have been grown in its place, however this one looks red enough to be it.

    I agree.
However in Britain the link I posted above, is a nursery that has been doing a tremendous amount of work hybridising Crocosmia.

    http://www.trecanna.com/search.asp?menuoption=crocos

They now have ones that are maybe shorter than Lucifer, but are an equally vibrant red. eg Hellfire.

It is worth a quick look at all the Crocosmias that sell.

What has been frequent on the general market over here is what is most likely to have been asked about by someone who is not seeking out less prevalent kinds.
