    Hello,
I'm from Belgium and this summer I went to San Francisco for my vacation, during a walk on the hills overlooking the bay and the golden gate (at Marin Headlands Park) to be precise, I discovered this small bush with a very special smell on the hills. (attached photo)

I searched for a long time on the web to find his name but impossible (except maybe here :) )

If anyone has an idea I am a taker.

    thank you in advance.

Many scented shrubs in the chaparral of California--all of those volatile oils!

But, if I had to guess, I'd go with Baccharis pilularis, or coyote brush.

The Granada Native Garden has a discussion about its fragrance: Coyote Brush – An Under-Appreciated Native

If not satisfied with that answer, you can at least get a list of plants that grow in Golden Gate NRA and work from the process of elimination here: Plant Lists for Parks -- Calflora
