A neighbour (non-gardener) recently dug up and gave me a very mysterious vine - root is like a hard and very solid, white fleshed yam - about the size of an American football. It grows very rapidly indeed, has soft, slightly furry grey-green leaves, somewhat like a grape leaf but a little smaller, the flowers are rather unimpressive, white and smallish, scattered all over. It grew like mad all summer (round 15 ft.) and has now died back and will, I presume, resurface next spring. I have no idea if it is native - or anything about it. Can anyone help?
