Identification: Woodland Plant Identification, please

    Hello, this is growing amidst a stand of mixed Douglas fir/alder forest on Whidbey Island in WA, and I was wondering if anyone can identify it, as it is so unlike anything else that has sprung up.

    Thanks so much, David and Ron. That was the conclusion I came to while waiting for answers. I'll have to wait for blossoms. I'm excited, because it's never appeared on our 10 acre property before.
