Not sure what your hardiness zone is, but as long as the ground won't freeze for 4 to 6 weeks once you've planted, your palm should be ok. Newt
I was going to suggest that you add your zone to your profile, but I just noticed that you aren't registered, so I guess that won't work. Anyway, windmill palms are rated to my zone 7 and would be more than safe to plant now, especially if they have been outdoors all this time. Your ground won't freeze for at least another 2 months. I live in the same zone you do. I have a Windmill Palm planted by my front entrance and it has thrived for 9 years. Paula Porter
Hi, I am from the north of England (Cheshire) and I bought a Windmill palm (Trachycarpus Fortunei) approx 15 years ago as a very small plant about 5 inches high, kept it in a cold greenhouse for a number of years and then planted it in our garden. It has never been protected in the winter and is now just creeping over 10 feet in height. I think it's safe to leave out after an initial hardening.
