I realize perhaps they are sending scenic pix and subsequently you are curious re the plants in photos. I can see why ! If you ever get a chance to visit (I know!) or the cousins go back to Aus ... these are good books and would be easy to find in a shop at Whistler BC Plants of Coastal British Columbia ÉDIT - i am guessing cuz hard to see but knowing the area, I would guess the purple blue flower on the left is Lupin. This is a very common plant from Arctic to desert, alpine to ocean shore. There are many diff versions of it - all beautiful and commonly viewed as a large swath of color in our spring time early summer.
