We planted several laurels (to make a hedge) a year ago - they were each about 6 feet high. This year they have a distinct yellow-green colour. Someone advised giving them some iron, and some lime too, but I did that about 6 weeks ago, and it seems to have had little effect.

    Any suggestions?

Iron becomes deficient in alkaline soil, lime is very alkaline...forget the lime.

You could test the soil to check for deficiencies. Feed is what they need.

They are sensitive to sitting in wetness - they like their soil to drain fast and stay dry til being watered (or rained on) again, but where you live, it might be hard for them to ever dry out very well, so they yellow, just like house plants who've had too much water.

    Been resting on your laurels?

Agreed with Oscar, get a soil test.
