I have a newbie question about a tree. I have a weird looking tree that we have always called the "umbrella tree" simply because the entire tree is shaped like an umbrella and the leaves are huge - a bit bigger than maple leaves.

I would like to have somebody come out and identify what kind of tree it is because I am looking to do a transplant project to transplant it to another property about 50 miles away and I want to get all the necessary details about this tree before even thinking about it. The tree is about 60 years old.

Who are the best people to talk to for identifying and transplanting a tree? Any help to point me in the right direction is greatly appreciated. Any recommendations is useful as well! I live in the California Bay Area.

    Thanks in advance! :)

    Re: hi. new here. question

    Hi,

Look for a local certified arborist in the Yellow pages. They usually work for or own tree services. Look under "Arborist" or "Tree Service".

    Hope this helps,

The description puts me in mind of a Catalpa, or 'lady cigar' tree.
