Our 30 year old houseplant died and I must replace it. It turns out hat although the screw pine is a very common house plant, no garden centers seem to carry it any longer. Any advice?
How about something similar that can be used in cooking, Pandanus amaryllifolius? Pandanus amaryllifolius - Wikipedia Flora Exotica - Exotic Vegetables and Herbs
Now I want one too! There is a very extensive article on it at Pandanus amaryllifolius – The only Pandanus with fragrant leaves.
It's available from the source listed in the second link I posted above. However I wouldn't be surprised if the plant can be found locally because of the large Asian population here. Check with three businesses along a stretch of SE Marine Dr in Burnaby (around the corner from Mandeville Gardens): Wing Wong's Nursery: 4892 SE Marine Dr, Burnaby Jenny's Garden Centre: 4888 SE Marine Dr, Burnaby Sun Tai Sang Farm: 4886 SE Marine Dr, Burnaby Also, inquire at Chef's Pick Herbs, a local producer of herbs. As they're making available the often difficult to find, Murraya koenigii, perhaps they'll also have this one. I suggest you update the thread title to include P. amaryllifolius; you may get more responses that way. Please report back if you're successful in sourcing this plant.
