hello i want to buy cedar logs for a loghouse in europe (free from bark and grub holes larger than 3 mm in diameter) where can i get some good deals? loggers? sawmills? thank you for your time
Cedar logs are not the best choice for a log house they hold too much water and shrink and expand. The best choice is spruce from the north a slow growing tree with tight growth rings.
hello Greg thanks for the reply all the timber except cedar has to go through heat treatment before it can be shipped to EU which bumbs up a price considerably a loghouse builder in bc told me cedar is most expensive log and one of the best for loghouse construction m
Turkey would be the best bet; it is within the Euro-Mediterranean phytosanitary area (reduces the plant health risks and therefore also the import regulations), and has extensive plantations of Lebanon Cedar.
And here I always thought Lodgepole Pine (Pinus contorta subsp. murrayana) was best for building ;-). tj
