I have a chestnut tree that was planted from seed most likely by a squirrel in my back yard. I think its about at least 10 to 12 years old if not more. Can someone tell me when will it start to flower? Thanks.
It'll need to be upright to flower well . . . ;-)) Probably within the next 2 or 3 years, it looks about the sort of size that they usually produce their first flower or two, but it'll also depend on how much sun it gets. BTW, yours is of course a Horse-chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum), not a Chestnut (Castanea).
Could have started flowering sooner, maybe the exposure is holding it up or it's just seedling variation.
Hi I have one of 2 chestnut trees in Port Hardy and it started flowering around 10 years after planting. John
This may be Aesculus flava and should have bloomed by now. Hard to tell what it is until it does bloom and you can see the "Nuts".
