I live in North Saanich, not far from Victoria , and would like to add a couple of apple trees. What is the best time to plant them ? Can I plant now or should I wait for warmer weather ?

You can plant if your soil is workable, but the availability of varieties might be greater if you wait a few weeks (at least that's true in Western Washington).

Thanks for your reply. So there is no concern that if I plant small trees and then we have a hard frost ?

Most of the fruit trees you would find this time of year are dormant bare root- and you're going to bury the roots in the soil. The tops can take a hard freeze and the roots will be in that nice, not frozen soil. The only thing to be careful of is bringing home lots of bare root trees and not getting them planted, or heeled in, and letting the roots freeze.
