I just moved into a house that has a Fig Tree and the thing is loaded with Figs. But I know nothing about fig trees. Can anyone tell me when they are ripe and what do with them when they are ripe. Thank you any info would be so helpful
Re: FIG (edible) TREES When the local bird population pays you a visit. :) One can eat them till very full, stew gently and freeze. Make wonderful jam. Mine is a black fruit (deep purple colour) and is in a sheltered but very sunny spot. Liz
Figs are ripe when they start to droop on the stem. Here's a link to a photo sequence of when a fig is ready to pick. How to tell when is fig is ripe: http://tallcloverfarm.com/?p=351
The kind that I have "which I think is the most common where I live" turn lite red and there soft, thats when I know there ready to pick/eat. :)
