Could someone tell me the difference between the flowering plants in the two pictures and the other one that has never flowered? Thank you.
Really? That's it? Maturity? Wow. I guess I'm impatient. I've had the unblooming plant in the ground for two years now. How long do I have to wait?
Longer than two years, obviously. I'm not sure why it hasn't bloomed for you yet, since here they start at about 1 year old. Then again, I have no cold season.
Not maturity. Nutrition. Give the one that hasn't flowered an extra helping of bulb fertilizer and it just might bloom. If not, its a dud clone and you should replace it with one that does flower.
Soil compaction or drainage could also be an influence - the second pair of pics are clearly in a very well-drained situation, the first pic shows a plant in what looks to be rather solid compacted soil.
I will definitely try to give it better drainage and more nutrition. I was just concerned they weren't the same plant to begin with... and I was waiting, and waiting... for nothing. Thanks all.
Re: What's the difference ? I think I figured it out After visiting three garden centres, to no avail, and after a little more research via the internet, I think I have figured out the answer to my own question. The plant in the picture that isn't flowering is the bressingham ruby bergenia. The one that is flowering like no tomorrow is the bergenia crassifolia, also known as elephant ears. Do you agree? So... now the question is... who do I call that has one? The search is on... ain't gardening fun?
