What to grow for a Bamboo screen?

I am considering buying some Semiarundinaria fastuosa ‘Viridis’ (coastal bamboo) to grow as a privacy screen in lined cedar planters near a fence. The bamboo would get full sun on the fence side but would be shaded from the back by a large cedar tree.

Would this variety grow in these conditions? I'm on mid Vancouver Island. I need something to grow tall and quickly.

 

For most pertinent responses describe the planters in more detail.

 

The planters would be made up of cedar panels about 1" thick and lined with 60mm rhizome barrier. Here is a link to a similar type of box: It's Not Work, It's Gardening!: Inspired by me!
