What should I plant my baby ferns in?

I'm not sure what kind they are but they're pretty common. At the moment they are just in peat moss

 

Leaf mould would be better than peat. But the best mix will depend on what species of ferns you have - can you post some photos to help identify them?

 

I think they might be wood ferns.. well they look like that but I've seen other pictures that look similar

 

Ordinary garden soil with a rich mix of leaf mould would be best for them.

Though I dont know where to get leaf moss, I'll have a look next time I go plant shopping

 

Ask in your nearest park / town / etc where they dump all the leaves they sweep up in the autumn!

 

Hi Hcurtis,

A walk in the woods should get you some leaf mould aka leaf mold. It's just rotted leaves. Just dig down below the leaves that are on the ground and you'll find the rooted ones from last year. A couple of handfulls shouldn't be a problem for the trees.
