I've had that plant for a couple months now. I dont know the name of it, maybe someone can help me? Also the leaves are turning brown and falling? Anyone would know why its happening? It also seem that is not as darker green as it was when I first got it. Thanks for anyone's help PS What is the best way to cut and make smaller pots of that plant? I've cut a piece out and put it in water but never seem to make roots. So I was wondering.
I hear so much about root rot.... That I try to be carefull. You think its probably not enough watering?
Sometimes it's impractical to compare our plants with how they looked after growers fertilized them. Often, they are fertilized for growth and color, more than for health. Are random leaves turning brown, or certain ones, like interior or older leaves?
Mostly the bigger and medium sized leaves are turning brown. I don't fertilize...so not sure what is wrong. All I know is that it doesnt look as great as when I first bought it
Not knowing the light it gets, if the problems isn't any of the other suggestions, it could just need brighter light as these plants like some direct sun, the rest of the day bright indirect. Have you checked for pest like spidermites?
I havent seen pests on that plant and today I noticed that not only I have big leaves that are brown, but baby, small ones too :(
Mites are minute and may be easily overlooked. The usual manifestation of a buildup is a finely speckled (stippled) appearance to the leaves, as well as fine webbing across gaps such as spaces between leaves and stalks. You see this, then you look closely (or get a lens) and see the mites themselves. Browning tends to come after they have been at it awhile, with the above signs much in evidence.
I had a very nice 6 foot variegated schefflera until it was lost to a mealy worm infestation. It doesn't look like that's what you're dealing with, but part of the reason I think mine was so healthy, and possibly tasty...was the monthly shower I gave the tree. They're from the cliffside rainforests in the Hawaiian archipelago, so they're used to a lot of mist, which I also provided regularly from a spraybottle. I think you'll find it thrives when soaked. From my experience, if you notice a mealy worm on that plant, take care of it immediately. Scheffleras are very susceptible to infestation as I sadly found out. My specimen was years old and very carefully grown.
I moved the plant closer to the patio door. I mist it once in while but I should mist it more often? Esp since we are heating up the place and its really dry here? I took another look and I really dont see anything at all. If there is any pest, I really don't see it anywhere. Should I still spray with a spray solution that I bought for indoor plant pests? Those are more brown leave I found today and some leaves seem to be growing crooked for no apparant reason.
Bear in mind you're talking to someone who doesn't even own a chemical cleaner...even my dishsoap is bio-friendly and organic. I used to mist my schefflera with water (I almost always leave any water overnight before it gets to the plant to reduce temperature shock and chemical exposure) about once or twice a week. It became part of the 'check-up' procedure on my plants.
