Can someone tell me what this plant is please.....(picture attached).

Also, how do I care for it? When I got the plant the red bit in the middle was bright red...it has now lost a lot of colour.....I am not sure if this is normal or because I haven't cared for it correctly.

    Cheers for any help.

It's a bromeliad (not sure which one), but you may have just bought it at the time when the 'mother' plant was on her last legs (this is normal) and the flower spike died (it takes weeks usually), but look on the outside of the plant for new, tightly furled baby plants (not flower spikes) growing up. If they're there, just keep some water in the middle of the big plant all the time (pour in a cupful every day or two just so you can see a little inside) until the babies are at least 2/3 'mamma's' size, at which time you can slice them off with their own root systems and plant into their own pots. IF there are no babies at all, you may be out of luck as the plant will die within weeks. It's what bromeliads do.
