Identification: What is this hairy orange stuff?

    I've seen this before, typically on poplar cut for firewood that's been in contact with the ground. That said, I've no idea what it is.

    hmm...VERY curious to know myself? i've posted an image of this stuff earlier on this site and have yet for an ID on it. almost like an orange 'moss'......but not?
