Identification: what is the fluffy white (lichen)?

    it couldn't have been ice. there was a bit of frost here and there, but it was definitely a growth of some sort throughout the forest.

    It's definitely a form of ice. This stuff comes up in this forum regularly, especially after a spell of freezing weather such as we are currently experiencing. All you have to do is put some of it in your hand and watch it melt.

    Photo of a branch that Douglas brought in to the office taken 5 minutes ago. He said the ice crystals were twice as long when he found it.

    Aw thanks. It just looked so strange! I can't believe I didn't touch it. I was scared of ice.
