what is a cayenne pepper???

    ive been trying to figure this out for a while, i see pictures of fat wide ones that look like banana chilli/capsicum, i see long slender curved ones, and i see shorter slender ones that arent curved, can anyone please tell me or even show me a picture of what a cayenne pepper looks like????

    Maximus, Jan's pics are a great start. In my experience growing Cayennes, there are a few different cultivars - hence both the long, slender, and curved ones, and the shorter, slender ones with no curve, may both be Cayenne. I'd say, however, that the ones that look like banana chilis are probably red wax, and not Cayenne at all. What defines this pepper is how slender and long it is. If you're sensitive to hot peppers, you should be able to hold a raw one, uncut, in your hand, and taste the spice on your tongue within two or three breaths.

    sweet, just tryin to figure out what the hell i got growing hehe a few different ones and i have no idea what is what, i`ll try post some pictures up maybe you all can help me with them too
