I have an 85 foot western cedar tree 15 feet from my house-east side. I'm thinking of having it cut down. The tree sheds little branches & seeds all year round. This debris cannot be composted as it is toxic. The result.....lawn is receding, my roof catches the fallout in it's niches & eavetroughs. My gardening has become maintenance. As a second choice to cutting it down, how high from the ground could the limbs be removed(already removed as high as 12') and or could the tree be thinned?

Will still do the things you object to even if pruned.

Thank you for the practical answer. My heart will have to give in to my head.

Not a rare tree here, cutting one more down won't make a big difference to the community. Sounds like it might make a big difference to you. You will probably notice a significant improvement after it's gone.
