Not sure how one spells it, but it is a beautiful plant. Should I still be watering a lot even if it getting colder at night and how should I prepare it for the cold? Do I cut it back and how much, if so. It is about 3½ feet tall and some of the leaves have died. What do I do with it?

If this is the one with sections of dead leaves scattered among other that are still live, the first order of business is to figure out why it is blighting off.

If on the other hand you just have leaves turning from the bottom up and falling off, that is probably its fall color effect and normal.

These like consistent moisture but if the soil is not quite dry the irrigation season for it may be over this year. Do not cut it down low as this will impact flower production next year.

Great. But do I cover it? and the plant looks great except that there are leaves that are dying a little all over.

There exist both "weigela" and "wiegelia", confusingly enough!

Need for winter protection would be indicated by zoning system. Look up what zoning you fall under and then what is likely rating for your weigela.
