Any suggestions for controlling dandelions and other common lawn weeds in the middle of an orchard? I have a dozen or so dwarf trees spaced 15-20ft apart. The areas between the trees are at least half weeds because the lawn was poorly maintained before I bought the property. I generally use glyphosate (roundup) for spot treatment but some areas are so weedy that I would have to nuke half the lawn. I do have various 2-4d products (weed-b-gone, weed-n-feed, etc) that I could apply, but I worry that they would kill the trees or contaminate the fruit. Is there a safe distance for careful applications, maybe staying a few feet away from each tree's drip line?

    Anybody have similar experiences?

My geese go over the road at certain times of the year and graze a small orchard. Chickens are also good for rotar tilling and generaly scratching things up so that it could be seeded or mulched later.

my shift keys seem to be broken so sorry for the lack of caps.

i live in a suburban neighborhood where i don't believe farm animals are permitted. i am thinking i will just have to be very careful with a spray bottle and try to get rid of weeds individually over time...
