Is this a Wandering Jew? If so what is the Botanical Name for this plant? I can seem to find the specific name for it. I just started this plant from a cutting a week ago and it has already started to grow! This plant usually is an indoor plant that hangs in a basket. It grows fast. Thanks for you help! Mirek
It appears to be a member of the genus Trasescantia. Try googling it and look at images. Thay show several variegated species. Indeed Tradescantias root easily and most are rapid growers. HTH, Bill
Ok, we know that it is a Tradescantia. But the only thing i don't know is what the specific name is. The Genus is Tradescantia, the species is...... and who made it. (eg L.) these 2 other things i do not know and really need to know. Thanks!
Assuming Lila is right with the ident (she always is!), then: The species is Tradescantia fluminensis Vell.; "Vell." being the standard author abbreviation for José Mariano da Conceição Vellozo (1742-1811), who first named it (not "made it"!!), and 'Variegata' is the cultivar name, meaning this particular clone which has yellow-patterned leaves, and is propagated vegetatively by cuttings (like almost all cultivars, it does not breed true by seed).
Thats a little bit more than i needed to know, but thank you, both for the information. I am just starting the Fundamentals of Horticulture class in town. I have to say theres alot i dont know. and alot i still dont get, but with time it will come to me. Thanks again Mirek
