how cold does a walnut seed have to get to in the winter and for how long to germinate
    > and how do I find out what kind of walnut I have exactly? I have a tree here that absolutely gives the best walnuts I have ever eaten, yet I see no new seedling starts in the spring > I have only lived here for two years and was wondering how do I get more of these trees specifically thank you for your thoughts and time (santa rosa, ca./ area)

A month or two in damp sand in the fridge at +1 or +2°C will be fine.

No guarantee that the seedlings from a tree will resemble it exactly in nut taste, etc., and you may well also have to wait 15-20 years or so to get a decent crop off it. One option would be to grow the seedlings to 2 or 3 years old, and then graft some shoots from your preferred tree on to the seedlings; they will bear more quickly and with a known quality crop.

    Hi Yoda
Plant a dozen nuts now around your garden about two inches deep, and you can be sure to have some sprouting up by spring. Avery year we have some walnut seedling growing in our back yard scattered around by the squirrel.
