We removed a black walnut that has apparently been poisoning the soils for decades. We would like to replace the walnut and wonder what would be good to plant in this location and suggested steps to improve the conditions. We will likely bring in some soil however the roots of anything significant will eventually contact the soil contaminated with the "juglone" (5 hydroxy-1, 4-nathoquinone) previously produced by the walnut roots and leaves. Your suggestions would be very helpful. Current thoughts are Crape Myrtle, Persimmons ????
