This upcoming Spring I am going to start a small vegetable garden and wanted to know if anyone had a good brand or website of a seed company that is known for there quality. I am going to stay away from Lowes or HD but would my local garden center have "good" seeds? Any recommendations...

    Thanks,

You should be assured of local reputable garden centers having seeds meant for the area, and with reputable advice. Start there.

The problem with local suppliers is that they usually don't have enough variety. I would definitely look for a seed catalog from your area. I'm not too familiar with the ones in the US, as I try to order from Canada. :) Try doing an internet search in surrounding states for seed suppliers. A couple could try Stokes Seeds http://www.stokeseeds.com/cgi-bin/StokesSeeds.storefront, or Burpee Seeds, http://www.burpee.com/ which are in NY and PA. I am sure there are lots of others.

    Good luck with your garden.

When you buy seeds you need to find varieties that are good for your local area (soil climate etc.).
Broccoli; for example needs pretty constant temps with little variation between night and day temps. Iceberg lettuce needs cool days and nights. And if you buy corn seed buy this years seed and find out how tall it grows and how big the ears should be. There is nothing more dissapointing than growing sweet corn that is only three foot tall.
