Found this in the corner of my laundry and have been searching Google to no avail. Mainly I'm just wondering:-
    1. Is this fungus dangerous?
    2. How can I get rid of this fungus, hopefully chemically? (I tried to scrape it off with a tissue but figure that might not be too safe)
    3. What was the original cause of this fungus?

    Probably a myxomycete - a Stemonitis
    perhaps Stemonitis fusca ?
can you post a better picture and some details on microscopy ?

Sorry, but i just found this picture though google image search typing "brown stringy fungus." This picture is extremely similar to the one in my laundry but the one in my laundry is about 5-8 cms (2-3 inches). The fungus in my laundry also has a lot more brown dusty things surrounding it (probably because i broke it) but definitely has the brown hairy/stringy top on a minuscule black base(<1mm, pretty much dots you can hardly see) which clings to the wood.
