I have two gooseberry bushes, both covered with fruit for the first time, but most of the fruit is falling off unripened. Can someone advise what might be causing this.

    thanks

    Howdy Ivana,
Perhaps growers in your area can give you a better picture. There are several reasons. I have the same probelm - dropping of young green berries right now. (You have to remember our season is quite far behind yours.) In my case, I found every fallen berry was attacked by Black Currant Weevil. I am expecting more to drop off in another two or three weeks when the eggs of the Currant Worms hatch. You could have the latter. If that's the case, you should be able to see a maggot or two if you slice open the fallen berry.
You should consult the Department of Agriculure.
    Peace
