unknown tree

    ID please. The photos here are from a tree in a very old, somewhat neglected, garden on Salt Spring Island. The first photo was taken on July 9th, the second today, August 28th. We were hoping to see either bloom or change, but obviously missed the transition from the first to the second picture.

    Magnolia. The first is the fruit; second one is next year's bud. Someone else will have to say which species.

    Most frequent type with this appearance saucer magnolia. If another hybrid flowers would be needed to discover this.
