I would like to know if someone can tell me what type of maple tree the attatched photo of my leaf shows. I was told it was a red maple, but the side of the leaf seem to have rounded edges compared to the pictures I have seen which show promident pointed edges. Any help would be appreciated.

Red maples leaves are highly variable. There are two basic types in the Southeast, one with 5 prominent lobes with relatively deep indentations, and one with 3 prominent lobes that are not as indented along the edges.
